Anime Unbox #40 (Steins;Gate - Part 1)

If you're wandering why Episode 7 Part 2 of the podcast still isn't up yet, it's because Takkun has not been online or on Skype for more than a minute. Our Fall impressions episode will be recorded by next Friday. I've gotten through 19 shows so far, and still got more to watch, lol.

Bandwidth Has Refreshed! RSS/iTunes Now Working!!

Now that the bandwidth for our hosting site has finally refreshed, everything from our media-players to our iTunes page should allow people to listen to the podcast once again!
Sorry if we had you guys worried over nothing. The problem is that the free subscription for our hosting sit gives us very limited features, which includes small amounts of bandwidth. It's easy to upgrade our subscription for the hosting and avoid the whole "British guy politely telling you that you CAN NOT listen to our show" issue ever again, but what's holding me back from upgrading is the "money". I'm not asking for donations, cause I'm actually just trying to get a hold of Takkun to inform him about this issue and see if he'll at least pitch in for half of the subscription upgrade ('cause with all the anime I'm trying to collect, no way am I planning to pay for the whole thing). Until a final decision is made, thank you for putting up with it, and enjoy the podcast! (I'm working on the latest episode as you read this...maybe)

Bandwidth Overload! Time For Us To Upgrade?

So basically, the hosting site that we use for the podcast episodes has
exceeded it's bandwidth, and  it won't reset until more than a week from now.
This means that the RSS and iTunes page shouldn't be working at the moment.
Apparently the podcast is starting to walk now, so I need to discuss
with Takkun (host of AOT! podcast) if we're going to upgrade the subscription
on our hosting site so that we can avoid this situation ever again.
All the episodes will be available in the Podcast Archive for download via Mediafire
if you want them now.

Thanks to all of you for crashing our hosting site, because that has made solid evidence that at least more than one person is listening to the podcast and likes to hear stupid people talk for hours.
Thank you for your pity...unlike what Vegeta
did to Nappa, lol.

Older Episodes Are Downloadable Again!!

If you just found us and missed out on the initial opportunity to download our first few episodes, well then suffer no more!! They're back baby! (trying to resist saying that jingle from Chili's)
I realized how frustrating it can be not having the option to listen to a podcast without needing to stay connected to a streaming site, so I've been uploading the episodes (that can no longer fit in the RSS Feed) onto the file-sharing site MediaFire.

Direct Download links to the MP3 files of each older episode will be available on this site (of course) in the "Podcast Archive" page where all the previous episodes of the podcast are...archived.
Hope this makes it more convenient for you all to enjoy all the older episodes of the AOT! Podcast!!

Anime Unbox #38 (Martian Successor Nadesico)

RightStuf was awesome enough to have this package delivered to me 10 days before the official release date.
The first time I watched Martian Successor Nadesico (Kidou Senkan Nadeshiko) was right after I finished Neon Genisis Evangelion, and I have no ounce of shame to say that I think Nadesico is an overall better show. Yeah, I know Evangelion has had a bigger impact on anime as we know it, but there's a lot of valid reasons to not like Evangelion also (I personally am okay with the series). But I can't really recall any major bad or "meh" points in Nadesico (besides the fact that the second season was turned into a Japan-only Dreamcast game instead of a sequel TV series).
If you want the best combination of sci-fi, romance, comedy, and giant robots, then this is the show!

You can buy the Martian Successor Nadesico boxset at:
>> RightStuf
>> Amazon

Also available on iTunes:
>> TV Series (Episodes 1-26)
>> Movie (Prince of Darkness)

Anime Unbox #36 (Clannad ~After Story~)

So I actually got this in the mail on July 6th (official release date is July 24th). But after nearly falling over from the two conventions I went to one week after the other, I finally got around editing this video and adding some footage wouldn't have been on this video if I'd posted this two weeks sooner, lol.

AnimeWorld Indy 2012!

AnimeWorld's first trip to Indianapolis!
So after plenty of awesome panels, meeting cool people, and editing all of this footage, you can now see for yourself what went on last weekend from my perspective in this 6-part collection of videos!
It was good times! The only thing that was wrong was a couple of no-shows and the lack of obligatory pocky stands. I may be going to Ikasucon this coming weekend also!

Website Update 5.83

Old episodes of the podcast will now immigrate to the podcast-sharing site Podsnack!
So, not too long ago, there was an update concerning the issue that old episodes would have to be deleted from our hosting site (Podomatic) in order add new episodes and make them downloadable, available on iTunes, etc. Well that's still the case, but instead of having to email me for the mp3 files of the deleted episodes, you'll now have the privilege to listen to them on an online media-player known as "podsnack" (aka "sharesnack"). (You can listen to "AOT! Episode 1 - Potato" now) But if you still want to download the actual file of an older/deleted episode, you'll still have to send a requset via email to "wakashi@rocketmail.com".

AOT! Presents: "Anime Unbox #34 (Madoka Magica Vol.3 LE)"

Even though I pre-ordered this waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayy back in Octobter, it still didn't get delivered to me until the DAF OF THE RELEASE!   D:<
"RightStuf, why are you acting like Amazon and not giving me my stuff two or three weeks ahead of the release date like you usually do, especially for a release like this? Of all the times you could've acted like a conventional online store, you had to pick this time to do it?!!"
ANGRY FACE!!
lol  itz k. Well I watched the last 4 episodes (again for the second time) in two days, and after a few revisions of this video due to half-asleep mistakes, it finally got upload and now here it is! This is a good way for you to see all the stuff that comes with this release if you're interested in buying it.
(btw, this video can be viewed in 1080p if you want better detail)

Website Update 4.59

New logo design, new promo vid, and good news about status-update!
So for anyone who's visited the site yesterday (6/13/12) has probably noticed a few changes: (1) The title of the site finally has a design (hint: it's at the top of this page), and (2) On the sidebar there's a new 26-sec promotional video in order to...promote the podcast and the site, not to mention our recently added iTunes page that I still need to tag "anime" onto so that people without direct links from us can find a stupid anime podcast to listen (and optionally cringe) to while breathing and doing stuff that may or may not (hopefully the latter for safety reasons) require their full attention.

And lastly, the podcast seems to be growing day by day this week. On Podomatic (where we host our podcast mp3 files on) the podcast ranked up A LOT in the "Games & Hobbies" section. There's around 1135 different podcasts in that section alone, and AOT! managed to move up in the daily rankings (based on plays, downloads, embeds, visits, etc.). This past Tuesday, the podcast was at #26 and #2099 overall. But then on Wednesday, it got #10 and #983 overall, and so from Monday to Wednesday the podcast ranked past approximately 4,252 podcasts on Podomatic's server!
It's good news that the podcast is getting out there, but our low (free) amount of bandwidth becomes a bigger issue along with that. We'll see what happens in the near future, for better or for worse.

Website Update 3.36

We now have the podcast on iTunes and RSS feed!
If you want to have episodes updated on your computer/devices better and easier, you can now subscribe! You can the iTunes and RSS buttons on the right collumn sidebar. You can also subscribe to auto-updates via e-mail by submitting your e-mail where it says "Keep Updated via Email" on the left collumn of the sidebar!

Website Update 2.35

In relevance to why part of our motto is to "stay on top of things":

If you guys haven't checked out the earlier episodes (eps 1-3) of the AOT! Podcast yet, well you should at least save the mp3 files of the episodes to your device/computer, because our data capacity is getting full, and we'll have to eventually delete older episodes in order to add new episodes of the podcast! Click on the link for a list of all the older episodes.
(Older podcast episodes can be found in the Podcast Archive page)

Once an episode is no longer available on the media-player for download, the only way to get the deleted episode will be to e-mail me asking for the specific podcast episode (e-mail address will be provided when the time comes), and I'll email you the mp3 of the episode.
The direct-download link for "Episode 4 [Part 2]" has also been updated if you prefer downloading the mp3. My bad for being late on that, I seriously just noticed now as I was updating the podcast archive page.

AOT! Podcast Presents: Scary Manhwa

Last week, we finally managed to have all 4 hosts of the podcast on during the same recording! But due to sound issues and terrible feedback-noise, most of that recording may never be heard in public for eternity. But luckily we managed to get this hilarious moment recorded before the show, and I couldn't imagine not sharing this moment with everyone, so here's an edited video clip that's relevant to the recording. Enjoy.

Want More Anime with Less Price?

Some may already know about this, but for those who want to know where they can go to afford more anime, Rightstuf.com is one of the best places for being an otaku that love buying anime. Rightstuf specializes in anime, manga, various anime-related merchandise, collectibles, pc games (especially visual novels), and some of the craziest deals imaginable. This past December, I bought over $415 worth of anime for the price of $210. I'd highly recommend Rightstuf to anyone who hates buying anime/manga at retail prices.

Retro Shooter Remix via Sprite

Coca-Cola Japan launched a free online version of the classic 1980s arcade game Xevious to promote the Spring makeover of its Sprite soda. The Sprite x Xevious game recreates Namco's vertical-scrolling shooter in Flash, along with some updated icons and sounds in the Sprite motif. This simplified version also comes with unlimited lives so the player can never run out of Solvalou fighters.
The game ties into Coca-Cola Japan's retro revamp of Sprite; the Japanese bottles now sport a logo inspired by the original logo that Sprite had when it first came to Japan in 1971.Xevious itself will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year. (info from Narinari)

Recommendations for Spring 2012 Anime

This season has been surprisingly satisfying with various genres. Sure, there are some that are painful to see, but it that's way with every season so forget about it, lol.
Here's a list of the shows I (Wakashi) have checked out and would recommend to others based on taste of genres:

> Action: Zetman, Jormundgand, Lupin the Third - The Woman Called Fujiko Mine, Accel World
> Slice-of-life: Uchuu Kyoudai (Space Bros.), Sakamichi no Apollon (Kids on the Slope), Hyouka
> Comedy: Tsuritama, Kore wa Zombie Desu Ka? Of the Dead, Haiyore! Nyaruko-san

Website Update 1.1

What's up everybody! The following features are part of the website's new update:

> "Fan Art Gallery" Page (has a tab at the top of the page that you can click on to go to)

> "AOT! Video" Page (has a tab at the top of the page that you can click on to go to)

> A weekly survey poll has been added to the home page at the right and below the Blog Archive. (This  week's question is  "Which genre of shows would you like to be in the most?")

I'm still trying to figure out what to do with the "Otaku Life" page.

You Can (Not) Re-send

Here's NTT Docomo's NEXT series SH-06D NERV phone, a smartphone specifically made to give any fan of Evangelion an otakuasm. Some of it's features include a stereoscopic 3D MAGI Home app, an exclusive mini-game called "Attack of The 8th Angel", 3D modeling data video, and optional panel covers. It will also include a "MAGI Widget," a NERV personnel app, a 3D Special Movie Viewer, a horizontal screen for use with the Desktop Holder SH38, the startup and lock screens, the custom Palette UI theme, wallpaper, music, fonts, and more! This phone will be on sale (exclusively in Japan) in June.

Potential Anime Sequels

According to Gigazine (Japanese website), during the Machi Asobi event in Tokushima, three anime studio directors were asked what shows they would want to make a sequel of if they had the chance to. Yutaka Yamaoto (studio Ordet) said he wanted to do a sequel to "Kannagi". Masahiko Minami (studio BONES) said he would to do sequels for "Clockwork Fighters Hiwou's War" and "Sword of the Stranger".
